My Dog Is Lost!
Viking, 1960
This book pre-dates The Snow Day by two years and shows Keats was truly ahead of his time by demonstrating his consistent and organic focus on portraying under-represented city kids in his books. In some ways dated, the book’s premise is still fresh. Juanito has just moved from Puerto Rico to the big city, where everything is so strange and different, including the language. Now he has lost his dog and has no one to help him look. But as he searches through the city, Juanito finds new friends.
